Mollie Russell was chosen as Columbus State University’s Stitch Central Cougar of the Week for the week ending on March 25.

Russell continued to impress this season as she started four games for the Lady Cougar softball team and won three including defeating No. 3 North Georgia Sunday. Russell outdueled last year's NCAA Division II Pitcher of the Year Jessica Coan as CSU defeated the Lady Saints 1-0. The junior struck out 13 batters, allowed five hits while walking just one.

The Decatur, AL native also tossed an eight inning complete game two-hitter against Lander on Saturday striking out eight batters in the shutout. Earlier in the week, Russell fired a shutout against Young Harris allowing just two hits while fanning four.

For the week, Russell tossed 26.2 innings allowing just two earned runs for an ERA of 0.53. She compiled a 3-1 record with a save while striking out 31 batters to just three walks.

Russell is now second in the Peach Belt Conference in ERA (1.12), third in strikeouts (151) and fifth in wins (12).

Once again, congratulations to Mollie Russell, this week’s Stitch Central Cougar of the Week.
