Lewis, Teschner Named to Watch List; Cougars Up to Ninth in Poll

Columbus – Columbus State University senior outfielder Ryan Lewis and junior catcher Brett Teschner were named to the initial watch list for the 2012 Tino Martinez Award. The award is annually given out to the most outstanding player in all of Division II baseball.
The initial list includes over 130 student-athletes from all across the nation. A mid-season list will be released in mid-April followed by the announcements of the semi-finalists on May 7.
The finalists will be named on May 21 and the winner of the award will be announced after the conclusion of the Division II World Series.
Teschner had a great Cougar debut last weekend hitting .786 (11-for-14) with three doubles and one home run. He also collected 11 RBIs.
Lewis did not play this weekend for Columbus State.
As a team, the Cougars (3-0) moved up six spots to No. 9 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Top 30 poll. CSU outscored Clark Atlanta 67-3 in the three-game sweep last weekend including scoring the second most runs in an inning in NCAA Division II history with 24.
In the College Baseball Lineup Top 30 poll, the Cougars remained steady at No. 23.
Columbus State will host Saint Leo in a three-game set beginning on Saturday, February 11 at Ragsdale Field. First pitch of the double-header is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. with the series finale played on Sunday.
