Augusta – Chase Gilreath has been named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.
This is the first time that the sophomore has received this honor. It is the second week in a row that a Columbus State player has won the Pitcher of the Week award.
Gilreath pitched seven innings this week including tossing four scoreless innings in an extra inning game against 17th ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University. The sophomore entered the game in the 10th inning allowing four hits while striking out three holding off the Pirates until CSU got the game-winning run in the 13th. It was his first victory of the season.
The Dawsonville, GA native allowed a solo homer earlier in the week as threw three innings against Young Harris. However, it was the only hit he allowed in his outing.
For the season, Gilreath has pitched nine innings allowing just one run while striking out nine batters.
Columbus State will be back in action tomorrow as they face off against West Georgia. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Ragsdale Field.
