Two CSU Cheer Pairs Finish in Top 10 of Partner Stunt Competition

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. -- A pair of Columbus State cheer duos stunted their way into the nation's top 10 on Friday night at the Universal Cheer Association's Partner Stunt Competition. The event is a prelude to Saturday's UCA Collegiate Cheer National Championships at Disney's Wide World of Sports.

Ashley Short and partner Jason Riel finished fifth of 18 pairs in the competition, while partners Megan Urban and Dishon Clark finished seventh.

Stephen F. Austin had two of the top three teams, including winners Ashley Tucker and Tim Wegner. University of Louisville pair Julie Weiss and Bill Mayo were runners-up.

The Friday stunt competition features pairs from all levels of the collegiate competition, from the smallest colleges to the largest Division I schools. Saturday's team championships will divide the schools and squads by size with CSU competing in Division II.

The Small Co-Ed squad will be the first to start its quest on Saturday for a fourth national championship as it competes in the semifinal round between 11:44 a.m. and 1:22 p.m.  The Cougar squad is seeded second in the competition. The finals will be held at from 5 to 6 p.m.

The Large Co-Ed squad will not have a preliminary round, but will go for all the marbles in the finals, which begin at around 8:14 p.m. CSU is seeded fourth and is seeking its first national title in the Large Co-Ed division.
