Columbus State to Face Carver Bible in Home Opener

COLUMBUS – After opening up the regular season last Monday, the Columbus State men's basketball team returns home to kick off the 2010-2011 home portion of their schedule against Carver Bible College on Monday night. Tip-off is schedule for 7:00 p.m. at the Lumpkin Center on the campus of Columbus State University.

CSU traveled to face No.21 Alabama-Huntsville a week ago and fell 96-66 to the Chargers. The Cougars were not able to stop the Charger's offense right from the start with the UAH shooting 73% from the field in the first half. Columbus State played a more competitive second half with the Cougars only being outscored by two points. In the half the Cougars showed flashes of what they are capable of when they went on a 20-6 run in a five minute spurt. Alabama-Huntsville junior guard Josh Magette scored a game-high 26 points. For Columbus State, Isaac Joyner was the leading scorer with 14 points and Darius Mcknight chipped in with 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds.

Carver Bible will enter Monday night's contest with a 0-7 record after their loss Friday night to South Carolina State University 69-67. The Cougars of Carver Bible are led by Bernard Parks who is averaging 11.5 points per game and also registered a double-double against Montevallo on November 13. Carver Bible also lost to another Peach Belt Conference foe Georgia College 59-47 on Wednesday night.

Columbus State and Carver Bible have met five previous times, all since the 2005-06 season. CSU has won all of the contests, which have been played in the Lumpkin Center.  The Cougars have scored an average of 113 points against Carver Bible in the five match-ups
