CSU Men’s Golf in First Place After Day One of Sandestin Collegiate Championship

DESTIN, FL – After two rounds of the Sandestin Collegiate Championship the 16th ranked CSU Men's Golf team sits atop the leader board in the two day, 12 team tournament. The Cougars have a two round total score of 566, only 3 shots ahead of second place team Georgia College & State who has a score of 569. In third place is Lynn University (575), followed by Nova Southeastern (583), and Drury University (584) rounds out the top five.

Individually, the Cougars have four players in the top twenty for the first two rounds.  Junior Rourke Van der Spuy heads into the clubhouse as the overall leader at four-under for the tourney.  The junior from South Africa has amassed 26 pars and 7 birdies in his two rounds of play. He holds a one shot lead over Robert Cacho (Barry) and Ben Vertz (Nova Southeastern) who both sit at three under after two rounds. Junior Justin Grice is currently in a tie for 5th place with rounds of 69 and 72, only three shots off the lead. 

Juniors Stephen Swanepoel and Steven Paine are tied for 16th place finishing with a score of 144.  Rounding out the field for the Cougars is Junior Daniel Glidewell who is in a tie for 49th place with a two day total of 151.

The Sandestin Collegiate Championship will continue tomorrow with the third and final round set to tee off at 8:30 am CST.
