Former Cougar Golfer Qualifies for the 2012 Open Championship

Columbus – Former Columbus State University golfer Andrew Georgiou qualified to participate in The 2012 Open Championship beginning on July 19. 

The 2012 Open Championship, also referred as the British Open, will take place at the Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club located in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, England. The championship is one of the four majors on the PGA Tour.    

In order to qualify for The Open Championship, Georgiou shot a five-under 139 in an International Qualifying Tournament in Royal Johannesburg & Kensington, Africa. Only the top-three scorers qualified for the tournament in July.  

Georgiou played four seasons at CSU from 2005-2009. He was named to the All-Peach Belt Conference first team in his final three seasons including being named the Player of the Year in 2006-2007. Georgiou finished inside the top-five of the PBC Tournament three times. The South African native, finished tied for third at the 2007 NCAA National Championship helping CSU to a fourth place finish.
