Cougars in Eighth After Day One of Matlock Invitational

Lakeland, FL – The Columbus State University men's golf team shot a two-round score of 12-over par 588 to finish the first day of The Matlock Invitational in eighth place. The event is being held at The Lone Palm Country Club in Lakeland, FL. 

The Cougars shot a four-over par 292 in round one and an eight-over par 296 in round two. 

CSU was led by Rourke Van der Spuy who is currently tied for fifth after shooting a two-under 142. The All-American tied a season low firing a five-under par 67 during the first 18 holes Monday. 

Coming off his third place finish last week, Justin Grice continued his good work posting a two-over par 146.  Grice shot an even-par 72 in the first round as he will begin play Tuesday tied for 21st. 

Steven Paine turned in scores of 72 and 76 to end the day with four-over par 148. The senior ended Monday tied for 28th. 

Making his first appearance of the spring, Johan Swanepoel had CSU's dropped score in round one shooting a six-over 78. However, he rebounded with a three-over 75 to end the day tied for 54th. 

Stephen Swanepoel finished day one of The Matlock with a two-round score of 13-over par 155. Swanepoel's second round score of eight-over 80 did not count towards CSU's score.

Barry and Florida Tech share the lead after 36-holes shooting even-par 576. 

Marcus Segerstrom of Barry is in first place shooting an eight-under 136 Monday afternoon.

Columbus State will conclude play tomorrow morning in Lakeland.
