No. 9 Columbus State Men’s Tennis Falls to No. 17 Flagler
St. Augustine, FL – The ninth ranked Columbus State men's tennis team dropped their first match Sunday afternoon to No. 17 Flagler. The Saints won six out of the nine total matches played in St. Augustine, FL. CSU now stands at 4-1 and 0-1 in the Peach Belt while FC is now 4-0 and 3-0 inside the conference.
In doubles action Flagler College took two of the three matches played to take the early 2-1 advantage. In the first match, 12th ranked Christophe Noblet and Gordan Divljak played the 10th ranked pair of David Cotrone and Gino Ramirez and fell just short 8-6. The Cougars edged the Saints in the next match with Andre Mordhorst and Pasqual Duttlinger defeating Uriel Oquendo and Harry Snoxell 8-6. In the final doubles match of the day, Peter Coulis and Adam Hunt of Flagler pulled off the upset of the 22nd rank tandem of Filip Cojbasic and Martin Shishkov 8-6.
In singles action the 52nd ranked player in the nation Christophe Noblet faced off against the seventh rank player in the nation in David Cotrone and fell in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. FC extended their lead when Peter Coulis took down Gordon Divljak 7-6, 7-5. Andre Mordhorst won a set for the Cougars but eventually fell to Gino Ramirez 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. CSU got back in the win column as Pasqual Duttlinger upset the 55th rank player of Harry Snoxell 6-1, 6-3. Olivier Simonet took to the court but fell to Adam Hunt of the Saints 6-0, 6-0. Columbus State won the final match-up when Martin Shishkov defeated Skyler Engel 6-1, 6-0.
Columbus State is back in action next Saturday March 5th as they travel to Samford University. The first match is set to begin at 10:00 a.m.
