Americus – The eighth ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team capped off a rare doubleheader sweep as they defeated Peach Belt Conference foe Georgia Southwestern 9-0 Saturday afternoon. The PBC match took place at the Susan K. Smith Tennis Complex in Americus.
Columbus State (18-2, 7-1 PBC) took all three doubles matches including first doubles as Gordan Divljak and Quentin Rayniere improved to 19-0 this season as they defeated Matt Evgeny Vinogradov and Jake Koonce 8-4. Moving down to second doubles, the sixth ranked pair of Martin Shishkov and Olivier Simonet had no problem with Ryan Bartz and Yvan Roelle 8-2. At third doubles, Michael Trebuhov and Adi Malicbegovic went to a tiebreaker and came out victorious defeating Joseph Bjerregaard and Chris Eastwood 9-8.
In singles action, Simonet snapped a four-match losing streak as he defeated Stephen Moore 6-3, 6-0. Forty-eighth ranked Divljak easily took down Bjerregaard 6-2, 6-2 at second singles. At third singles, Rayniere needed a third set to dispose of Roelle as he won the match 5-7, 6-4, 10-5. Shishkov had no problem at fourth singles winning his match 6-3, 6-0 over Bartz.
At fifth singles, Trebuhov defeated Jake Koonce 6-1, 6-2. In the final match of the afternoon, freshman Oussama Zoghlami lost just two games as he won over Matt Vansant 6-2, 6-0.
Columbus State will have a week off before traveling to take on Anderson on Saturday, April 14. The match is set to begin at 2:00 p.m.
