Columbus State Track & Field Wins Adonica Ferguson Relays

Smiths Station, Ala. – The Columbus State track and field teams began the 2011 season this afternoon competing in the 2nd Annual Adonica Ferguson Relays. The event was held in Smiths Station, Alabama at the Evilsizer Track Complex. The men's and women's team for CSU placed first out of four teams that were competing in the meet

In women's action, CSU claimed first place finishes in all 12 events.  Moneka English won the 1500 meter run followed by her twin sister Moneque who finished three seconds behind her. Brittney Skiles finished ahead of teammate Ashley Arnold for first in the 3000 meter run with a time of 11:01. The Lady Cougars took the wins in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays, and the distance medley as well as the 1600 sprint medley.
Crawford took individual wins in the long jump (5.04m) and triple jump (10.3 m). CSU's Chatil Bradford and Mariana DeFoor finished one and two in the shot put event with distances of 12.07m and 10.70m respectively. Bradford also brought home first place in the discus throw recording a 22.44m distance. In the last competition of the day Whittney Ryals won the javelin throw with a distance of 29.9m.
Columbus State finished with a team score of 142 with Tuskegee finishing in second with a score of 61.
 

In the men's portion CSU finished with a team score of 94, which was seven points more than runner-up Tuskegee. Columbus State took first place in five out of the 12 events held.

Nicholas Kering won the 1500 meter run with a time of 3:59 which was 12 seconds ahead teammate Stephen Bowers. John Neill followed that up with a time of 9:08 in the 3000 meter run which took home first place. CSU took first in the 4x100 meter rely and the distance medley.

In the men's triple jump Jonathan Jones finished first for the Cougars with a distance of 13.56m. Jones also took third in the long jump portion (6.27m) of the event. Peter Blickhahn finished second for CSU in the discus throw competition with a distance of 32.6m.

CSU returns to action on March 18 in a dual meet at the Georgia Tech Invitational in Atlanta, GA.
