Columbus State Track & Field Competes at Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational

Atlanta – The Columbus State track and field teams participated in the Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational hosted by Georgia Tech at the George C. Griffin Facility. Several student-athletes had solid performances highlighted by Shelisia Crawford and Jonathan Jones winning the 200 meter dash and triple jump event, respectively.

In women's action, Crawford took home first place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.17.  She also finished second in the 100 meter dash posting a time of 12.03, while Georgina Nembhard of Georgia won the event in a time of 11.93.  Asha Alexander just missed out on a top 10 finish placing in a tie for 11th (12.51) in the 100 meter dash.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Keila Beverly, Miriam Cobb, Oriel Warren and Crawford finished sixth with a time of 49.07.  Whittney Ryals had a solid showing in the javelin throw with a toss of 35.61 meters good enough for second place.

In the men's portion, Jones triple jump of 13.32 meters was able to give him the top distance in the event.  Jones placed in fifth with a 6.18 meters performance in the long jump. 

Peter Blickhahn finished sixth in both the shot put with a toss of 11.68 meters and the javelin with a throw of 31.67 meters. 

Gerald Chichester took home third in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.01 while Josh Tolbert registered a time of 59.76 in the event placing 10th.  Jeremy Williams was fifth in the 400 meter dash posting a 49.22 mark. 

The quartet of Jones, Chichester, Williams and Tolbert competed in the 4x100 meter relay finishing with a time of 41.95.

Columbus State is back in action next weekend with several athletes competing in the Emory Classic, the Stanford Invitational and the FSU Relays.
