Columbus State Track and Field Competes in Opening Meet of Season
Columbus – The Columbus State University track teams kicked off the 2012 season with the third annual Adonica Ferguson Relays. The event was hosted by CSU at Hardaway High School in Columbus.
In the women's competition, the Lady Cougars beat out Tuskegee in the team scoring.
The 4x100-meter relay quartet of Janikqui Gaines, Laquita Daniel, Zanquetta Smith and Shan Crawford crossed the line in 47.83 placing first over two other teams.
The Lady Cougars also took home the top prize in the 4x200-meter and 4x400-meter relays. The 4x400-meter team of Crawford, Smith, Renee Usher and Daniel ran a 4:07.42 which was 38 seconds better than the second place squad.
Crawford also won the long jump and the triple jump for CSU.
Chatil Bradford threw the shot put 11.59 meters and the discus 37.96 meters to come out on top in both events.
Whittney Ryals won the javelin throw event with a distance of 29.14 meters.
On the men's side, Columbus State beat out Morehouse and Tuskegee to win the team competition.
Douglas Lynch won the javelin throw for the Cougars with a distance of 43.36 meters.
Columbus State will have to wait a while to compete again as they don't particpate until March 15 at the Morehouse Relays.
