Rifle Team Impressive in Weekend Swing Through Tennessee
Columbus, GA - Columbus State's rifle team had an impressive
weekend in the state of Tennessee on Saturday and Sunday, shooting
at Memphis University and at the University of Tennessee at Martin.
The shooters took part in the Tiger Open, an air rifle event at
Memphis, and then shot a dual match at UT-Martin.
In the Tiger Open, CSU and Memphis shot head-to-head as part of the
competition and tied in total points at 2310. The Cougars lost in a
tie-breaker by one point in that match, but their showing was good
enough to take second place in the eight-team event which included
Memphis, UT-Martin, Alabama-Birmingham, Arkansas-Fort Smith, and
Birmingham Southern. The top shooter for CSU was Jonathan Hall with
a 589 and that score earned him the distinction as the event's top
shooter.
At UT-Martin on Sunday, CSU won the match by a 4570 - 4496 total.
Hall was the top shooter in air rifle with a 595 total, while April
Dunn was best in small-bore with a 571.
CSU also learned of its final finish in the Ole Miss Invitational,
which concluded on Sunday. The Cougars shot in Oxford last weekend
and finished eighth in the 15-team event. Texas Christian won the
event title with a team total of 4641, while CSU had a total of
4518. Some of the teams competing were Ole Miss, Jacksonville
State, Murray State, and Memphis.
CSU returns to action on October 16-18, hosting its first-ever home
event, the CSU Invitational at Fort Benning's Army Marksmanship
Unit.
