CSU Sunday Softball Cancelled Due to Poor Field Conditions
Columbus, Ga. -- Columbus State head softball coach Brad Huskisson went to work on Thursday trying to find opponents for the weekend to replace the five scheduled contests his team lost to the cancellation of the Georgia Southwestern tournament. He found two teams to play and planned a pair of double headers on Sunday.
The playing surface at the CSU Softball Field, however, did not cooperate. When Huskisson and his team removed the tarp from the infield on Saturday, the field condition made it painfully obvious that no games would be played this weekend.
CSU was to face Lincoln Memorial on Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. and then Reinhardt at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Both of those contests have been cancelled. Huskisson says he is now trying to schedule a makeup date with Reinhardt, but that the Lincoln Memorial twinbill will likely not be made up.
"We probably could have forced the issue and tried to play, but the shape the infield was in, I did not want to put any players in jeopardy. I think had we played, the condition in some areas would have deteriorated with the traffic of a game, and it was just not worth it," said Huskisson.
CSU is not scheduled to play a home contest until the original home opener on March 14.
