Columbus State Softball Places Two on All-Conference Team

Florence, SC - The Peach Belt Conference announced the 2011 softball All-Conference team at the annual softball awards banquet held in Florence, SC, site of the 2011 PBC Tournament.

Kara Gordon and Morgan Staffins represented Columbus State as both named First Team All-Peach Belt Conference as at-large selections.

Armstrong Atlantic State's April Jowers was named the PBC Player of the Year while USC Aiken's India Kornegay was tabbed the Freshman of the Year.  North Georgia's Jessica Coan was named the Pitcher of the Year while her head coach Mike Davenport was named the Coach of the Year.

Gordon has been a solid addition to the Lady Cougars squad serving primarily as the team's shortstop.  She leads the team in several key offensive categories including runs scored (38), homeruns (11), runs batted in (33) and stolen bases (23).  Her stolen base and homerun totals are good enough for second and third best, respectively, in the conference.  The sophomore has picked up 40 hits on the year and walked 23 times to sport a .398 on-base percentage.  Gordon has also be terrific defensively committing just five errors for a .974 fielding percentage.

Staffins has been another main cog in the offensive wheel for CSU.  She is right behind Gordon in homeruns with 10 and RBIs with 31.  Her .693 slugging percentage is the second highest in the conference.  Staffins sports a .327 batting average to go along with a .425 on-base percentage.  The sophomore has been stout defensively not committing an error all season at first base.  Earlier in the season, she hit a homerun in five consecutive games.

CSU enters the tournament as the three seed and will take on Georgia College this afternoon in a first round matchup at 1:30 p.m.
