Montgomery, AL – Mollie Russell pitched a complete game shutout allowing four hits while Casey Googe hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to propel the Columbus State University softball team to a 1-0 victory over Auburn-Montgomery Wednesday afternoon. It was the first game of a doubleheader.

The Lady Cougars (2-3) got their first hit in the third inning as Nina Rubio singled through the left side of the infield. Rubio stole second base but was stranded in scoring position.

Casey Googe led the fourth off with a solo jack over the centerfield wall for the only run of the game. It was Googe's second home run of the season.

Rubio picked up her second hit of the ballgame in the fifth inning stroking a ball into leftfield. However, this time the sophomore was thrown out as she tried to swipe her second base of the day.

The Lady Cougars had one last threat to add an insurance run in the seventh inning as Kori Waugh ripped a ground-rule double over the leftfield fence. The junior was stranded at second as the following two Lady Cougars were retired.

The Warhawks (0-1) did not advance a runner past first base the entire game as they had four singles sprinkled throughout the contest.

Russell (2-1) struck out eight batters in the complete game effort and still has yet to allow an earned run this season in 19 innings of work.

Nina Rubio was 2-for-2 during the game while Casey Googe went 1-for-2 with a walk and a RBI.

Morgan Staffins and Kori Waugh each had one hit apiece.

Brandi Richards (0-1) of AUM was struck with the hard luck loss allowing just one earned run over seven innings pitched. Richards struck out 10 batters while allowing just five hits.
