Columbus – Kristen Carr threw a three-hit gem and the Lady Cougars scored four runs in the sixth inning to pickup an 8-0 non-conference victory over Fort Valley State University Tuesday afternoon at Cougar Field in Columbus, Georgia.

Morgan Knight put Columbus State on the board early as she belt a solo homerun to straight away centerfield in the first inning.  It was her ninth homerun of the season.

CSU (28-17) was held scoreless over the next two innings before putting up another run on the board in the fourth.  The first three batters off the inning reached base as Morgan Staffins singled, Kori Waugh walked and Taylor Turner reached on an error to load the bases.  Branigan Wix hit a sacrifice fly to leftfield plating Staffins to make it a 2-0 contest.

The next two batters flew out to end the frame.

In the fifth, Casey Googe ripped a one-out double to left-centerfield and was chased home by Kara Gordon who swapped places as she doubled to leftfield.  Staffins put the hosts in front 4-0 with a RBI groundout.

Columbus State wrapped up the ballgame in the sixth scoring four times to end the game via the eight-run rule.  Kristen Gregory singled to the shortstop and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Knight then singled her home with a base knock to right-centerfield.  Googe and Gordon both singled loading the bases before Staffins ended the contest with a three-run triple to rightfield.  The triple was the first of Staffins career.

Kristen Carr was nearly unhittable as she allowed just three hits in the shutout performance.  She issued a pair of walks while striking out a career high 13 batters.  The right-hander struck out at least two batters in every inning except one.  Carr improved to 5-0 on the year.

Kier Johnson suffered the loss for FVSU surrendering eight runs on 12 hits and one free pass.  Tawan Barker, Keny Shakoor and Jur Kellman had the lone hits for the Lady Wildcats.
