Lady Cougars Look to Take Down Flagler

The Match-up

After defeating Armstrong Atlantic State University 80-69 on Thursday evening, the Columbus State University women's basketball team will look to defeat another Peach Belt Conference foe in Flagler. After a back-and-forth first 10 minutes, the Lady Cougars closed out the half by outscoring Armstrong 25-11 and then cruised in the second half. The Pirates would not get any closer than eight points of CSU in the second half. Dominique Gilbert scored a season high 24 points while Shan Basely chipped in 17. Letiecia Davenport and Asha Alexander scored 11 and 10 points, respectively. Flagler dropped to 2-11 with their loss on Wednesday to Francis Marion and now has lost eight of the past nine games. Taye'Lor Trotter was the only player to score 10 or more points as she dropped in 11. No other FC player scored more than six points as they shot 23.3 percent (10-for-43) from the field. Columbus State is a perfect 4-0 all-time versus the Saints including last season's 68-43 victory in St. Augustine.  

Scouting the Saints 

Flagler will enter Saturday with an overall record of 2-11 and 1-6 in Peach Belt Conference play. The Saints have won just one game in the past nine games after losing to Francis Marion 54-31 on Wednesday night. On the road this season, FC is winless posting a 0-3 mark. 

Taye'Lor Trotter is pacing the Flagler attack averaging 10.8 points per game. She leads the team in three-point field goals with 19 and is shooting 34.2 field from the floor. Shelbi Lindsey has played in only eight games this season but is chipping in 9.9 points a night. She leads the team in field goal percentage shooting at a 44.9 percent clip. Treva Mason leads the team in rebounding pulling down 7.5 rebounds a contest. 

As a team, Flagler is struggling putting up points scoring just 54.5 per game while shooting just 33.9 percent from the floor. FC ranks 12th and 13th, respectively in the Peach Belt Conference in those categories. The Saints dish out a PBC low 11.2 assists per game while turn the ball over 20.6 times a game, the second most in the league. 

Columbus State in the Nation

Columbus State slipped, in the latest statistical released by the NCAA (through January 12 games), to the 27th nation in field goal percentage defense as opponents are shooting 35.1 percent. The Lady Cougars are committing 15 turnovers a game, which is the 22nd lowest total in the nation. Dominique Gilbert moved up to 20th nationally in block shots per game averaging 2.4 while she is one of 43 people in the nation to have five or more double-doubles. 

A CSU Win Would 

Give Columbus State their fourth win in the past five games. The last two CSU's loses have came against No. 3 Clayton State and No. 13 USC Aiken.

Keep Columbus State undefeated against Flagler. CSU is a perfect 4-0 against FC.
