Columbus State Women's Golf Well Represented in PBC Awards
Pine Mountain – For the second straight year, the Columbus State University women's golf team placed two golfers on the All-Peach Belt Conference First Team as the PBC announced its All-Conference squads at its annual awards banquet Sunday night at Callaway Gardens.
Kimesha Anthony and Nikki Crowley were named First Team All-PBC members while head coach Brian Padgett made program history becoming the first CSU women's golf coach to be named Coach of the Year.
Anthony had another tremendous season for CSU. The junior was second in the PBC with a stroke average of 76.9. Anthony played in 10 tournaments this season and finished inside the top-10 nine times including seven top-five finishes.
In her final three tournaments, Anthony finished in third place while also notching two third place finishes in the fall. Her best finish of the season came at the Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate when she finished tied for second place.
Crowley continued to impress in her senior season as the Phenix City, AL native won two events this season for the Lady Cougars. To kick off the spring season, the senior won the Lady Cougar Collegiate Classic and then won the UWG Invitational three weeks later.
Her stroke average of 77.5 was the fourth best in the Peach Belt Conference this season and has three tournament victories under her belt in her time at Columbus State.
Brian Padgett was the man chosen to start the Columbus State women's golf program in 2009. After spending 10 seasons as the assistant men's golf coach, Padgett immediately began creating a competitive program.
Last season, Padgett led the Lady Cougars to their first tournament victory at the Birmingham Southern Fall Shootout.
This year, CSU has won two tournaments including wining the UWG Invitational last month.
Padgett becomes just the second coach to win this honor since the Peach Belt Conference began sponsoring women's golfer. UNC Pembroke's David Synan won the award in the first two seasons.
Meghan Moore of UNCP was named the conference's Player of the Year while Marie Santacroce of Flagler was named the Freshman of the Year.
