Augusta – Kansas Bayly has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week announced by the league office.
This is the third consecutive week that Bayly has been tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week. She becomes the first-ever defender to win the weekly award for three straight weeks and only the second player ever to win any PBC weekly award in three straight weeks (Kristin Burton, Armstrong Atlantic State University).
Bayly stepped up when the Lady Cougars needed her the most on Wednesday (10/19) as they fell behind Clayton State 1-0 in a crucial conference road game. The Lilburn, GA scored the first of her two goals in the match in the 57th minute netting the equalizer off a Kayla Brown corner kick.
The Lady Cougar defense flexed their muscles allowing just two Laker shots in the second half to force the game into overtime. Just over three minutes into extra time, Bayly curled a shot from the right wing into the back of the net to give CSU the victory.
Before Bayly's first goal, the Clayton State defense had not allowed a goal in over 570 minutes.
On Saturday (10/22), Bayly put her defensive cap on and helped CSU shutout USC Aiken 3-0. The Pacers were only able to muster two shots the entire game.
The Lady Cougar defense is now second in the conference in goals against average with a 0.68 mark.
Columbus State will be back in action tomorrow evening as they host Montevallo. The match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. with a ceremony before the game to honor CSU seniors.
