CSU Women Fall in Battle of Top Five Teams

Columbus, Ga. -- The much-anticipated matchup between a pair of top five women's teams went in the direction of the Seasiders early as the visitors took two of three doubles points. CSU's Tracy Castilllo and Caterina Kiefer grabbed the only doubles win at the number two position, defeating Shawni Porter and Ayako Ikeda 8-5. The top-ranked team of Elwin Li and Yuan Jia defeated Loriane Favoretto and Hanane Toumi 8-4 at number one, while Jenny Chin and Salina Aranda dispatched Gabriela Vasilescu and Sofia Persson 8-2. 

In singles, CSU managed just one point as Persson defeated Porter 6-1, 6-3. The Seasiders had three ranked singles players in Li (#2), Jia (#3), and Jenny Chin (#20) and all three won in straight sets over their Cougar opponents. 25th-ranked Toumi fell to Ikeda 5-7, 5-7 in a tight match. 

The CSU teams return to action on Saturday as they travel to Milledgeville for a Peach Belt Conference date with GCSU at 2 p.m.
