No. 7 Columbus State Ends Regular Season with Victory over Augusta State

Augusta – The seventh-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team played its final regular season match Sunday as they capped off an amazing season with a 5-0 victory over No. 40 Augusta State. The Peach Belt Conference match took place at the Newman Tennis Center in Augusta.
With the victory, CSU ends regular season play with a 23-1 overall mark and an 11-1 record inside the conference. The Lady Cougars will be the second overall seed in the upcoming PBC Tournament.
In doubles action, Paola Cigui and Milica Tomic continued their fine work as they dropped just one game to Liv Pettersson and Victoria Lindqvist winning the match 8-1. Second doubles was a little more competitive as Olivera Jokic and Carolin Weikard defeated Julie Fontaine and Roberta Oliveria 8-6. In the final doubles match, Renata Paiva and Andrea Redrado needed a tiebreaker to dispose of Marina Ferreria and Lissa Murakami as the Lady Cougar duo won the match 9-8.
Only two singles matches were completed as the Lady Cougars reached the five victories necessary to clinch the match. At second singles, Tomic blanked Lindqvist 6-0, 6-0. Jokic had the other CSU victory in singles play defeating Oliveria 6-1, 6-1 at fourth singles.
Columbus State will now take part in the 21st annual Peach Belt Conference Tournament in Greenwood, South Carolina beginning Friday, April 20. The Lady Cougars will take on Augusta State in the first round of the tournament if the Lady Jaguars defeat North Georgia on Tuesday. If ASU losses, CSU will take on Clayton State.
