Columbus State Women's Track and Field Performs Well in Coach O Invitational

Troy, AL – The Columbus State University women's track and field team competed in the Coach O Invitational hosted by Troy Saturday. The field was mixed between top Division I and Division II programs. The meet was held at the Jesse H. Colley Track/Soccer Stadium in Troy, Alabama. 

Once again, All-American Shan Crawford was outstanding for the Lady Cougars. Crawford won both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. In the 100, Crawford crossed the line in 11.76 seconds and was even more impressive in the 200-meter dash where since blew out her opponents finishing the race in 23.86 seconds. She finished 26 hundredths of a second ahead of the second place finisher. 

With her efforts, Crawford was named the female MVP of the meet.

Also freshman Zanquetta Smith performed well in the 200 finishing in fourth place with a time of 24.57 seconds. LaQuita Daniel crossed the line in sixth place in 24.84 seconds. 

In the 1500-meter run, Renee Usher ran a 4:54.14 to finish in fourth place while Moneka English crossed the line in 10th place with a time of 5:03.97. 

The Lady Cougar 4x100-meter relay team continued to make a name for themselves. After holding the nation's top time for less than 24 hours, the quartet of Asha Alexander, Crawford, Daniel and Smith improved their automatic qualifying time to 45.48 seconds as they won the event over Troy's A squad. 

Chatil Bradford continued her fine season in the field events as she finished in ninth place in the discus throw with a distance of 39.41 meters. 

Columbus State will continue testing themselves against top Division I fields as they travel to Clemson, South Carolina to compete in the Bob Pollack Spring Invitational on Saturday, May 5.
