John W. Walden Tennis Center

One of the grand jewel tennis facilities in the Southeast, the John W. Walden Tennis Center was completed in the summer of 2016. The complex is became the new home of the Columbus State tennis programs in the fall 2016.

The expansion was made possible in thanks to a partnership between the city of Columbus, the Columbus Regional Tennis Association (CORTA) and Columbus State University.

Seven acres of land was cleared to make room for 12 new hard courts and nine clay courts. As part of the expansion, six courts are equipped with PlaySight technology, a video component with live streaming capabilities that transforms the home courts into fully interactive practice sites. Columbus State is the first NCAA Division II program in the country to have PlaySight technology on its home courts. Less than 20 NCAA Division I programs have a deal with PlaySight, but top programs such as Oklahoma State, Georgia and Ohio State are already benefiting from PlaySight.

The facility also includes a new clubhouse, providing top of the line locker rooms and coaches’ offices. It is also the new CORTA headquarters.

The facility was recognized by the United States Tennis Association in 2017 with a Top Facility Award, given out each year to the best facilities across the country.
