Named to the first team NCAA Division II All-American Team as a catcher in 1986 after being named to the All-Regional Team in 1985. Achieved a .351 batting average for his two seasons at Columbus College with 24 doubles, three triples, and 25 home runs while driving in 135 runs. In the 1986 Division II World Series, he went 6 for 17 for a .353 average with a home run, five RBIs and scored three times. That team posted a 45-16 record, the most wins ever by a Columbus College team at that time.
