Played two seasons for the Columbus College men’s basketball team. In the 1977-1978 season Heard was named co-captain of his team and he was voted the South Atlantic Conference “Most Outstanding Player”. During his career as a Columbus College Cougar he set the record for field goal accuracy, hitting 57.2 percent. He was selected in the sixth round of the National Basketball Association Draft by the Denver Nuggets and later coached as a graduated assistant to Frank (Sonny) Clements.
