Stephen WilliamsST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Columbus State University volleyball team was handed a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 25-13) loss at Flagler on Friday night. The Peach Belt Conference match was played at the Flagler Gymnasium in St. Augustine, Fla.

Kylie Beaubien,
Cori Ehmen and
Megan Frame each picked up five kills to lead the Lady Cougars. Ehmen added 18 assists, while
Caytlin Merritt led the defensive effort with 10 digs.

For Columbus State (2-15, 0-7), the first set was a battle as the Lady Cougars hung within three of the Saints to the midway point.

Leading 13-10, Flagler (11-4, 4-2) went on a 6-1 run to open up an eight-point lead and basically put the set away. CSU was able to get back within five on a few occasions, but the Saints ultimately finished it off for a 1-0 lead.

The second set saw a back and forth first seven points with the Lady Cougars leading 4-3 after a kill from
Savannah Miller. Flagler would get another strong burst however, this time a 12-1 spurt to blow the set open.

The third game started on a good note with the Lady Cougars opening up a 7-5 lead in the first set. CSU forced six early errors by the Saints to hold the two-point edge. Flagler was able to regroup though and used a 5-0 run midway through the set to take the lead for good.

The Lady Cougars hung around and stayed within five points, trailing 17-13 late. The Saints then closed the match by taking the final eight points to seal up the victory.

Columbus State heads to Savannah, Ga. on Saturday for a date with Armstrong State. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
