MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Columbus State University volleyball team dropped a tough 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-13) decision to Georgia College Saturday afternoon in Peach Belt Conference play. The match took place in the Centennial Center in Milledgeville.

Freshman Malaisia Stallworth had a team-high 10 kills for the Lady Cougars. The freshman also assisted on four blocks while tallying a solo one as well.

Andrea Skipor had six kills while Megan Frame added five and had a service ace.

The Lady Cougars (1-9, 0-2 PBC) got off to a quick start in set one building a 5-2 lead, thanks in part to attacking errors by Georgia College.

GC rebounded, however, tying the set at 7-7 before going on an 8-2 run to go in front 15-9.

Columbus State was able to rally to make the score 22-18 thanks to strong play by Frame and Skipor. Each player had a service ace while Frame slammed down two of her kills during the spurt.

The Bobcats were able to rebound and earned the final three points to take the first set 25-20.

The second set started out much like the first as CSU ran out to a 5-2 lead. Stallworth led the charge this time with two kills and helping Skipor out on a block.

Columbus State went ahead 15-11 after a Skipor kill before Georgia College (6-3, 2-0) strung together a rally to tie the score at 16.

From there, it was back-and-forth affair until the Lady Cougars had three straight points to go-ahead 22-20 capped off by a Maddie Harris kill.

However, following a Bobcat timeout, GC scored five of the final eight points in the set to take it 25-23.

Georgia College put the match away in the third set after going on a 10-2 run early to go in front 12-4.

CSU was able to get the score within five (14-9) before GC finished off the win.

Taylor Svehla had a match-high 19 kills with a hitting percentage of .609 for Georgia College. Maggie Roper had eight kills while Kayla Brockway chipped in with 37 assists and eight digs.

Columbus State will have six days off before playing a tri-match in Misenheimer, N.C. on Sept. 26. The Lady Cougars will play Belmont Abbey at 2 p.m. before taking on Pfeiffer at 4 p.m.
