COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University women's basketball team closed out the preseason with a dominant 89-33 victory over Agnes Scott in Saturday's exhibition contest. The game was played in the Lumpkin Center.

All 13 Lady Cougars that saw the floor scored on Saturday, led by
Alexis Carter's 13.
Toxiana Wilson and
Tatiana Wayne finished with 10 apiece.

"I am really proud of our defensive effort today," head coach
Anita Howard said. "We were able to force a lot of turnovers and turn them into easy baskets on the other end.

"We still have plenty of room for improvement, but this was a nice way to head into the regular season."

The scoring started slow, as Agnes Scott held a 1-0 lead nearly three minutes into the game.
Britteny Tatum scored off a steal and to put CSU in front and the Lady Cougars were off to the races.
Â
Columbus State scored 19 straight points over the next four minutes to blow the game open.
Toxiana Wilson capped off the run with back-to-back buckets.

The Lady Cougars kept rolling throughout the quarter, and
Erin Wilder drained a three-pointer with under 20 seconds to play in the first to give CSU a 26-8 edge after 10 minutes of play.

CSU's dominance continued in the second quarter as the lead grew as wide at 27 and the Lady Cougars took a 41-17 lead into halftime.

The most impressive quarter for the Lady Cougars came in the third though. CSU scored 22 straight points to open the frame and Agnes Scott did not score its first points of the third quarter until there were 43 seconds left on the clock.

Entering the fourth quarter up 44, Columbus State continued its surge. The Lady Cougars finally closed out the contest with another three from Wilder to give them their largest margin of the night and the final score.

Columbus State forced 40 turnovers in the game, leading to 54 points. The Lady Cougars also had 19 second chance points off 24 offensive rebounds.

CSU shot 45.8 percent (38-of-83) from the field and 5-of-21 (23.8 percent) from three on the afternoon. Meanwhile, the Lady Cougars held the Scotties to just 29.3 percent (12-for-41) shooting.

Columbus State will open up the regular season next Friday night in the PBC/SIAC Challenge at Fort Valley State. CSU will take on Albany State in the opener before going up against FVSU on Saturday. Friday's tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m.
