Lady Cougars Head to Lander

COLUMBUS – The 24th-ranked Columbus State University women's basketball team continues its three-game road swing on Saturday with a trip to Lander. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. inside Horne Arena in Greenwood, S.C.
 
Last Time Out
 
Ashley Asouzu's double-double led the way as the Lady Cougars took down Young Harris 65-49 on Wednesday night. Asouzu finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Britteny Tatum added 18 points of her own.
 
Howard on the Matchup
 
"Saturday is going to be a big test for us. Lander is extremely talented and can really score. We need to be locked in on both ends of the court for the full 40 minutes if we want to be successful."
 
Series History
 
Columbus State and Lander will meet for the 47th time on Saturday. The Lady Cougars hold a 32-14 edge in the all-time series.
 
Last Meeting
 
CSU rallied back from down nine in the fourth quarter to tie the game with under a minute to go, but Lander held on for a 72-68 victory in the Peach Belt Conference championship game last March. Asouzu tallied 17 points and nine boards in the loss.
 
About Lander
 
Lander (10-3, 4-1 PBC) is riding a four-game winning streak since the holiday break, with all four coming by double digits.
 
The Bearcats currently sit atop the PBC's East Division, which they won by two games last season.
 
Lander currently leads the Peach Belt Conference and ranks seventh in the country scoring 83.9 points per game.
 
Ty'Hesha Reynolds (18.8) and Breshay Johnson (18.5) currently rank first and third in the conference in points per game, respectively.
 
CSU Notes
 
Columbus State (11-1, 5-1) picked up its second straight win on Wednesday at Young Harris.
 
The 49 points allowed by the Lady Cougars were the lowest total against a conference opponent this season.
 
Despite not scoring on Wednesday, Keyrra Gillespie made her impact in other areas tallying a season-high 11 rebounds and adding seven assists.
 
CSU grabbed 14 steals against YHC, marking the ninth time this season the Lady Cougars have picked up at least 10.
