JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Columbus State University women's basketball team took its second consecutive loss on Sunday, falling 119-91 to Carson-Newman. The nonconference contest was played in Jefferson City, Tenn.

Tatiana Wayne scored a career-high 37 points in the losing effort on 14-of-33 shooting and 7-of-13 from the 3-point line. The 37 points are the fourth highest single-game output in Lady Cougar history.

Machala Raymonville finished with 13 points, while Tatum Jarvis added 11. Chrisalyn Boston nearly put together a double-double, going for nine points and 12 rebounds.

"Give Carson-Newman credit for their offensive performance today," head coach Anita Howard said. "We were not good on the defensive end and they made us pay for it. We have to get back and get to work with a huge conference game coming up on Saturday."

Columbus State (2-2) came roaring out of the gates, getting a pair of 3-pointers from Wayne and another from Raymonville to hold a 9-3 edge three minutes into the contest.

Carson-Newman (6-0) would settle in from there though, outscoring the Lady Cougars 19-9 over the remainder of the quarter for a 22-18 lead after one.

Zomoria Clark knocked down a pair of free throws to start the second quarter, but things turned south from there as the Eagle offense got rolling. C-N scored the next eight points to stretch the margin out to 10 and pulled away for a 56-30 advantage at halftime.

The Eagles put it on cruise control the rest of the way, with CSU getting no closer than 21 over the final 20 minutes.

The Lady Cougars finished the day 34-for-98 (34.7 percent) from the field and 9-for-29 from outside. CSU grabbed 58 rebounds, 31 on the offensive glass, to just 48 for C-N.

Columbus State will open up Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday against Lander. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in the Lumpkin Center.
