MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The sixth-seeded Columbus State University softball team bowed out of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament in the quarterfinal round on Friday after a 7-1 loss to third-seeded Flagler. The tournament is being played at the Peeler Complex at Georgia College.

Columbus State closes out the season with a 27-26-1 record.

"This is obviously a disappointing way for the season to end," head coach Brad Huskisson said. "We made strides in the right direction though and I'm looking forward to this group coming back next year to build off this season."

Flagler (36-18) jumped on the board first with a three-run home run in the bottom of the second inning. The Saints then added a pair of runs in the fourth to stretch the lead out to five.

The Lady Cougars finally broke through in the sixth behind a leadoff triple from Kia Smith. The All-Peach Belt Conference selection crossed the plate two batters later courtesy of Calli Star.

That was the only offense Columbus State would get on the day, as the Lady Cougars were limited to just five hits.

Flagler capped off the scoring with two more runs in the bottom half of the sixth inning.

Darby Demarest (8-9) and Peyton Sorrells each worked three innings for the Lady Cougars. Demarest allowed the first four runs, while Sorrells was responsible for the final three.

Smith, Keeli Waugh, McKenzie Fagioli, Brittany Mitchell and Kristin Studds all had a hit for CSU.
