AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Columbus State University women's basketball team got back in the win column Saturday with a 77-72 overtime victory over Augusta. The Peach Belt Conference contest was played in Augusta, Ga.

Tatiana Wayne led the Lady Cougars with 28 points, including an 11-for-14 performance from the free throw line. The junior also added nine rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Chrisalyn Boston and
Machala Raymonville added 13 points each, while Boston chipped in 11 rebounds for the first double-double of her CSU career.

"I'm proud of the way we fought today," head coach
Anita Howard said. "We didn't have our best, but the ladies never stopping fighting and made some big plays when we needed them down the stretch."

Columbus State (6-4, 4-2 PBC) held a 63-57 lead with under five minutes remaining in regulation after a bucket from Boston. However, the Lady Cougars allowed seven straight Augusta points to give the Jaguars their first lead since 2-0.

Wayne gave the Lady Cougars the lead back with three free throws, but a foul on the opposite end allowed the Jaguars to tie the game at 66 apiece with 49 seconds to play.

Wayne's go-ahead attempt was blocked with 26 seconds on the clock, but the guard got the ball back with a great individual effort for a steal. With a second chance, Wayne's runner was off the mark and the game headed to overtime.

In the extra period,
Tatum Jarvis knocked down a pair of shots as the two sides went back and forth on the opening possessions.

Sabria Cotton then had a strong sequence that featured two steals leading to a 1-for-2 showing at the foul line and then a basket for Boston that made it a three-point game in the final minute.

Augusta (3-7, 1-5) missed a tying 3-point attempt and Wayne put the game on ice going 4-for-4 at the line down the stretch.

CSU controlled the game in the early portions, opening up a double-digit lead in the first quarter and leading by as many as 15 in the second. Augusta closed the first half on a 14-2 run though, and the game stayed tight the rest of the way.

Columbus State was just 32.5 percent (26-for-80) from the field and 4-for-24 from the 3-point line, but made up for it with a 21-for-29 day at the free throw stripe.

The Lady Cougars are on the road again on Wednesday night as they travel to Georgia Southwestern. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Americus, Ga.
