GREENWOOD, S.C. – The Columbus State University women's basketball team saw its winning streak come to an end on Saturday with an 87-76 loss at Lander. The Peach Belt Conference game was played in Greenwood, S.C.

Machala Raymonville finished with 29 points and nine rebounds, while Tatiana Wayne added in 27 points of her own. Both players tallied four steals as well.

"Hats off to Lander," head coach Anita Howard said. "We knew they were going to pressure us and we rushed early in the game and I don't think we really ever settled in."

Columbus State (13-8, 11-6 PBC) got off to a quick start behind Raymonville, as the senior scored seven points to help the Lady Cougars to an 11-6 lead six minutes in. However, the Bearcats closed the first quarter with 10 unanswered points to lead 18-13 after one.

Lander (18-5, 13-4) spread the margin out to nine early in the second, before the Lady Cougars rallied back. A pair of steals led to two layups that made it a one-point game with less than four minutes until halftime. The Bearcats stretched the lead back out right away, taking a 38-31 lead into the break.

The CSU offense got rolling in the third quarter, starting on a 7-2 run and later getting five straight points from Wayne to take a 52-51 lead, the first since the opening quarter.

The game went back and forth for the rest of the quarter, with Jasmine Herndon putting the ball through the hoop in the final minute to send the game to the fourth tied at 63.

Columbus State held its final lead of the day at 69-67, but a 6-0 Lander run gave the Bearcats the lead back and they would not relinquish it.

The Lady Cougars were 30-of-70 from the field on Saturday and outrebounded Lander 46-33. However, CSU committed 25 turnovers, including 18 in the first half.

Columbus State will stay on the road and get ready for Monday's tilt at USC Aiken. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
