COLUMBUS – The third-seeded Columbus State University women's basketball team started the postseason with a 75-60 victory over sixth-seeded Francis Marion Wednesday night in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament quarterfinals. The contest was played inside the Lumpkin Center.

Tatiana Wayne went for a game-high 28 points to lead the Lady Cougars.
Chrisalyn Boston put together a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds, while
Machala Raymonville added 13 rebounds of her own.

The victory sends the Lady Cougars into the semifinal round where they will meet second-seeded Lander. The semifinals will take place on Saturday at North Georgia in Dahlonega.
"I'm proud of what we did on the defensive end tonight," head coach
Anita Howard said. "We did a great job keeping their leading scorer from getting going and made some good adjustments at halftime in the rebounding department."

Wednesday evening started slow for both sides with just nine points apiece through the first eight minutes.

Wayne knocked down her first 3-pointer of the night and Boston put one home before the quarter ended to give CSU a 14-9 edge after the first 10 minutes. Wayne had 11 of the 14 Lady Cougar points in the quarter.

Columbus State (19-8) stretched its lead out to double figures on
Kaihla Carter's lone bucket of the night, but the Patriots were able to get back within six late in the second. However, it was the Lady Cougars that closed strong and took an 11-point edge into halftime.

The lead pulled out as wide as 14 for the Lady Cougars in the third quarter, however Francis Marion (13-10) had it back down to a seven-point game as it went to the fourth.

The final quarter belonged to the Lady Cougars, as CSU put together a 12-0 run that spread the lead to 69-48 at the five-minute mark. Columbus State was able to put it on cruise control from there, making its way into the semifinals.

CSU shot 40 percent (32-for-80) from the field and dominated the glass 62-42 with 22 offensive rebounds.
