PEMBROKE, N.C. – It was a strong showing for the Columbus State University men's and women's track & field teams on day two of the Peach Belt Conference Championship Friday. The three-day event is being hosted by UNC Pembroke.

The Cougars netted 35 points on Friday to up their total to 52 for the championship, good enough for fourth place. The Lady Cougars added 18 points of their own and are in sixth with 24 overall.

Friday belonged to the relay teams for Columbus State, as the Cougars and Lady Cougars stood atop the podium in the 4x100.
Xavier Matthews,
Nate Blackmon,
Mitchell Morand and
D'Andre Hall gave the Cougars a victory by nearly a half of a second. The race was tight on the women's side with the quartet of
Shanila Chapman,
Mya Jackson,
Paris Warner and
Jasmine Finch winning by three-hundredths of a second.

After placing third and fourth in the long jump on Thursday, Blackmon and
Javian Williams were at it again in the triple jump. Blackmon finished in the runner-up position with Williams coming in right behind him.

Noah Churchwell added a runner-up finish of his own, just three seconds off the pace in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Brianna Dent had a second-place tally as well, recording a personal-best in the discus.

CSU also added points with seventh and eighth-place finishes in the pole vault from
Peter Bennett and
Andy Kelly, respectively.

The championship meet will conclude with the final day of competition on Saturday.
