CSU Track Finishes PBC Championship Meet

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Columbus State University men's and women's track & field teams wrapped up the Peach Belt Conference Championship on Saturday. The three-day meet was hosted by UNC Pembroke.

The Cougars took home a fourth-place finish with 91.5 team points. The Lady Cougars tallied 61 points and ended in sixth.
 
Javian Williams was named the PBC Freshman Field Athlete of the Year after finished third in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump. Xavier Matthews and Shanila Chapman were selected to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
 
Shanila Chapman grabbed a win on the final day of the competition for the Lady Cougars. The senior put up a time of 12.33 seconds to win the 100 meters. She also finished in fourth in the 200. Paris Warner to fifth and sixth in the two events, respectively.
 
Xavier Matthews and D'Andre Hall both competed in the finals of the 100 and 200 meters as well, with Matthews taking home a second and third-place nod and Hall finishing in seventh and sixth.
 
Charles Asouzu scored in a pair of events for the Cougars, running fifth in the 1,500 meters and sixth in the 800. Semia Houston finished in sixth in the 800 for the Lady Cougars.
 
Houston, Mya Jackson, Morgan Jones and Warner teamed up for a fourth-place nod in the 4x400 relay, while the men grabbed a fifth-place finish. The men's quartet was made up of Nate Blackmon, Christopher Miles, Kenrick Williams and Mitchell Morand.
 
Blackmon added points in the high jump, while Miles and Williams put points on the team score in the 400 meters. Alli Hay and Noah Hollis finished in scoring range in the 5,000 meters.
 
Brandon Bryan and Brianna Dent each scored in the hammer throw, with Jasmine Herndon placing in the shot put.
