Â
CSU will be the third seed in next week's PBC Tournament. The Lady Cougars will take on sixth-seeded Flagler on Friday. The tournament will be played at North Georgia in Dahlonega.
Â
Game One
Â
The opening game was a pitcher's duel through the first three innings, as neither team found the scoreboard.
Â
After seeing the first eight hitters retired, the Lady Cougars threatened with two out in the third.
Lee Anne Rees drew a walk and a throwing error put runners on the corners. A walk to
Kia Smith loaded the bases, but a pop up stranded the three runners.
Â
Georgia College finally broke the scoreless battle in the fourth, getting a triple and single with two outs for the first run. The Bobcats would then add three more in the fifth to stretch the lead.
Â
Columbus State cut the deficit in half in the sixth, as
Calli Star launched a two-run homer to left. However, the two runs would be all the Lady Cougars would get in the contest.
Â
Darby Demarest (14-9) gave up three runs in four innings in the circle.
Helen Snavely let in one run in her two innings.
Â
Game Two
Â
The Bobcats jumped in front in game two as well, getting a RBI double to take the early lead. However, the Lady Cougar offense came to life in the second.
Â
Elizabeth Perdue came across with the first run to tie the game at one before
Keeli Waugh pushed the Lady Cougars in front with a RBI single.
Â
One inning later, Perdue doubled the CSU lead with her team-leading 12
th home run of the season.
Â
Georgia College plated a run in the third, but the Lady Cougars got it back on a run-scoring double by Smith in the sixth to make it 4-2. However, GC knotted up the ballgame at four in the bottom half of the sixth with a two-run homer.
Â
Both teams had a runner in scoring position in the seventh, but were unable to bring them home, sending the game to extra innings.
Â
CSU stranded a runner on second in its half of the eighth, and then had its back against the wall in the bottom half. A leadoff double had the winning run on second and a single to right gave the Bobcats a chance to end the game.
JoJo Beyer kept the game alive though, throwing out the runner at the plate.
Â
With two on and still only one out, the Lady Cougars were able to turn a double play to force a ninth inning.
Â
Columbus State had two on with nobody out in the ninth, but again the Lady Cougars couldn't scratch across the go-ahead run.
Â
GC finally took advantage, getting a single with the bases loaded to walk off with the victory.
Â
Snavely (2-3) took the loss, with her only run allowed being the winning one in three innings.
Peyton Sorrells went 5.1 innings in the start, giving up four runs.
Â
Waugh, Perdue and Star all had 3-for-5 lines in the second game.
