COLUMBUS – The fourth-ranked and top-seeded Columbus State University women's tennis team is headed to the NCAA Round of 16 once again after a 5-0 sweep of fifth-seeded and No. 17 Tusculum on Sunday. The NCAA Southeast Regional match was played at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
 
Columbus State (23-2) reaches the Round of 16 for the seventh consecutive season and 10^th time overall. The next match for the Lady Cougars will be played on Tuesday, May 8 in Surprise, Ariz.
 
"This time has worked really hard all season to get to this point," head coach Evan Isaacs said. "We had so many new players, but they've grown together and are playing great tennis right now."
 
The Lady Cougars rolled on Sunday, setting the tone with a sweep of doubles.
 
Marleen Tilgner and Giorgia Vitale made quick work of the opposition at third doubles, putting up an 8-0 sweep for the first point. Noa Davico and Beatriz Lopez then finished off second doubles with an 8-3 victory.
 
Candice Paya and Natalia Kattah Paz fell behind early at first doubles, but battled back to record an 8-6 win at the top spot.
 
Singles was a race to the finish line for the Lady Cougars, as CSU needed just two victories to clinch the match.
 
Luise Sachs notched the fourth point of the day with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at sixth singles. Lopez then delivered the clinching point with a 6-0, 6-2 win at first.
 
Vitale and Tilgner were both just one game away from winning their matches, while Davico and Paya were still early in their respective matches.
