SURPRISE, Ariz. – The third-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team saw its season come to a close on Thursday, as the Lady Cougars fell 5-3 to top-ranked Barry in the NCAA national semifinals.

Columbus State closes out the season at 25-3 overall after making the program's first-ever appearance in the national semifinals. The Lady Cougars reached the postseason for the 17
th consecutive season after winning the Peach Belt Conference regular season and tournament championships.

"I'm extremely proud of this group of ladies," head coach
Evan Isaacs said. "We started with basically a whole new group and they worked really hard to get to where we were today.

"We had our chances today, but Barry is a great team and won some key points that proved to be the difference."

The Lady Cougars got off to a great start on Thursday, winning two of the three doubles matches.

Noa Davico and
Beatriz Lopez jumped on the board with an 8-5 win at second doubles. After Barry defeated
Candice Paya and
Natalia Kattah Paz at the first spot,
Marleen Tilgner and
Giorgia Vitale tallied a big 9-7 victory to give the Lady Cougars the advantage heading into singles play.

Barry leveled the match at two apiece with a straight-set win over Davico at second doubles, but CSU grabbed the lead right back with Vitale being awarded a win when her opponent was defaulted.

The Bucs grabbed the momentum right back with wins over Lopez and Tilgner, moving the match to 4-3 in Barry's favor. Barry then finished the match off with a win over
Luise Sachs at sixth.
