Aiken, S. C. - The Columbus State University women's basketball team lost a tough one on the road falling to USC Aiken 72-62.Â
Senior Tatiana Wayne led all scorers with 17 points while LeeAysia Williamson and Eboni Williams rounded out the double figure scorers as they finished with 14 and 12 points off the bench respectively.Â
"I was proud of the effort late from our team as we battled back from a double-digit deficit," head coach Anita Howard said. "Our defense really started to pick things up in that fourth quarter but unfortunately our struggles on offense got the best of us."
The Pacers held a 13 point advantage heading into the final quarter when the Lady Cougars reeled off a 10-0 run to make it a one possession game. It was the defense that got things going as CSU forced five USC Aiken turnovers capped off by a Wayne steal and Williams jumper that led to a Pacer timeout.Â
Columbus State got within three points again at 58-55 midway through the fourth but that would be the closest they would get as USC Aiken proceeded to go on a 9-2 run to shut the door.Â
CSU never quite recovered from the second quarter as they scored just six total points while shooting 2-for-14 from the field putting them in a big hole heading into the second half.
The Lady Cougars shot 26.8 percent (22-for-82) from the field and went 4-of-28 from the 3-point line.
Columbus State will stay on the road and head up to Dahlonega, Ga. Wednesday, Jan. 9 to take on North Georgia. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
