WINGATE, N.C. - The Columbus State University cross country teams wrapped up its season on Saturday competing at the NCAA Southeast Regional. The meet was held at the Wingate XC Facility in Wingate, N.C.
The Cougars just missed out on a top-10 showing coming in 11
th while the Lady Cougars finished in 13
th.Â
Columbus State had two male runners that finished inside the top-50 in the loaded field.
John Scarborough ran the 10k course in 33:27.5 to secure 40
th place while
Charles Asouzu was right on his trail in 44
th with a time of 33:35.4.Â
Carl Corley had a good showing in North Carolina crossing the line in 34:14.1 to finish in 60
th.
Wright Calhoun was less than a half-minute behind his team as with a time of 34:31.2 for 75
th.Â
Kaden Ellis (95
th, 35:31.1),
Tristan Breen (96
th, 35:35.5), and
Noah Churchwell (123
rd, 37:06.9) all competed at the regional for the Cougars.
Leading the way for the ladies was junior
Alli Hay. Hay grabbed a top-50 finish crossing the line in 23:43.4 for 48
th.
Macey Voorhies and
Eva Salazar-Torres ran the 6k course at nearly the same pace. Voorhies completed the race in 24:12.2 for 60
th place with Salazar-Torres right behind in 68
th after a 24:28.5 time.
The final two runners for Columbus State was
Brianna Sattinger (78
th, 24:42.1) and
Cynthia Lopez-Jordan (105
th, 25:46.3)
Automatic bids are awarded to the top three men's and women's teams at each of the eight NCAA Regional Championships, while 10 additional teams will be selected as at-large bids by the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Cross Country Committee. Additionally, 24 individuals outside of the qualifying teams are selected to compete at the NCAA National Championship meet.
