AMERICUS, Ga. - The Columbus State University women's basketball team avenged its loss to Georgia Southwestern earlier this season by taking down the Lady Canes 84-75 Wednesday.

Four Lady Cougars finished in double figures, led by senior Tatiana Wayne's 19 points in 20 minutes of play. Tatum Jarvis finished with her second double-double of the season putting up 15 points and 11 rebounds. CSU got plenty of help off the bench with Anna Stewart and LeeAysia Williamson notching 16 and 14 points, respectively.

"We're down multiple key players as we continue to battle injuries left and right but this is a resilient bunch," head coach Anita Howard said. "The second quarter showed how dangerous we can be when we play according to our gameplan with our Lady Cougar style of play. Now the key is finding that consistency for the full 40 minutes as we head down the stretch of the regular season."

It was Georgia Southwestern that opened up the early six point lead on Columbus State after CSU shot just 21 percent in the first quarter. But the second quarter is when the Lady Cougars stormed back to take the lead. Trailing 16-8, CSU went on an 8-0 run capped off by back-to-back Stewart layups to tie the game. After a free throw from GSW, Stewart responded with four more quick points to give Columbus State the three point lead.

Williamson took over the second quarter from there, scoring 10 points in the final six minutes of the quarter including a layup in the final seconds to give Columbus State the 10-point halftime lead. The Lady Cougars outscored the Lady Canes 32-16 in the second quarter.

Georgia Southwestern would make a run in the third, trying to get back in the game. Wayne got things going scoring eight points in a 90-second stretch late in the third, but the Lady Canes finished the quarter on an 8-2 run to trail by just three heading into the final ten minutes.

Wayne and Jarvis put their senior experience to work in the fourth scoring 12 of the first 14 points for CSU in the final quarter to give them breathing room as they opened up a 16-point lead nearing the midway mark.

As a team, CSU shot 43.9 percent (29-for-66) from the floor while hitting five of their 19 attempts from downtown.

Columbus State will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 16 inside the Lumpkin Center to take on Lander. Tipoff will be at 1:30 p.m.
