FLORENCE, S.C. - The fourth-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team swept Lander 4-0 in the quarterfinal match on Saturday. The Peach Belt Conference tournament match took place at Francis Marion.Â
Columbus State (20-4) will advance to the semifinals which will also take place later Saturday due to the inclement weather from Friday. The Lady Cougars will take on Georgia College at 6:00 p.m. with the winner advancing to the championship on Sunday.Â
The Lady Cougars got started off on the right foot seeing Marleen Tilgner and Luise Sachs pick up a win at the top doubles spot. They came out with a 6-2 victory while Natalia Kattah Paz and Candice Paya shut their opponent out 6-0 to get CSU the doubles point. The match at second doubles with Beatriz Lopez and Noa Davico went unfinished at 3-3 in the first set.Â
In singles play, 38th-ranked Lopez picked up the straight set win 6-0, 6-2 at second while Paya went 6-0, 6-1 over at third.
Clara Audap picked up a huge decision on sixth shutting her opponent out 6-0, 6-0 as CSU secured the three singles points needed to take the overall match.Â
31st-ranked Tilgner went unfinished at the top spot 6-4, 3-0 with her teammate 56th-ranked Sachs up 6-1, 5-2. Paz was also up 6-0, 4-3 as the Lady Cougars held the lead in all three courts that went unfinished.
