COLUMBUS - The Columbus State University softball team finished the regular season off with a bang, sweeping Georgia Southwestern on Saturday. The Peach Belt Conference games took place at Cougar Field.

Columbus State (35-15, 15-5 PBC) dominated both games, ending the first in five innings 12-1 and taking the second game 12-3 in five innings as well.

"I'm so proud of the way we closed out the regular season," said head coach Brad Huskisson. "This senior class means the world to me and it's been an incredible journey to see the way they've grown and matured both on and off the field."

The Lady Cougars secured the two-seed in the upcoming Peach Belt Conference tournament that will start Friday, May 3 at North Georgia.

Game One

The Hurricanes jumped on the scoreboard first with a double in the opening inning but from there the Lady Cougars put up 12 unanswered runs to come away with the victory.

CSU went through the lineup in the third inning with Kirstin Reynolds hitting an RBI-single into left field to put the Lady Cougars in front 2-1. Paris Poston would pick up an RBI-single herself making it a 3-1 game with no outs.

After a pitching change, Columbus State loaded the bases and brought Hannah Rose Corbin to the plate with a chance to bust open the scoreline. Corbin hit a comebacker up the middle but the ball got past the centerfielder and all the way to the wall allowing the bases to empty out. For good measure, Morgan Elston capped off the inning with a single into left center as CSU finished with six runs in the inning.

One inning later, the Lady Cougars used the long ball to put the game out of reach. Madeline Parker launched a three-run home run to dead center, her fourth of the season. Three batters later it was Corbin drilling a two-run shot to right field as the Lady Cougars dropped five runs in the inning.

Darby Demarest pitched a complete game inside the circle, giving up only two hits on the afternoon while striking out eight.

Corbin finished 2-for-4 at the plate in the first game while gathering four RBI's and scoring twice. Parker had one hit but made it count as she collected her three RBI's off the home run.

Game Two

The power bats continued to mash for CSU entering the second game as they piled on another 12 runs in the win.

Once again, the Hurricanes jumped out in front, taking the 2-0 lead after the opening frame.

But an immediate response by Columbus State would ensue after four straight singles plated two runs. Parker continued her hot afternoon with a double into right field giving them a 4-2 lead.

The Lady Cougars then put together one of their best innings of the season exploding for eight runs in the bottom of the third.

With the bases-loaded Parker was hit by a pitch followed by a Madisyn Brown single into right field as the Lady Cougars doubled up the Hurricanes 6-3.

CSU then entered pinch-hitter Harley Dawson and the junior sent a bomb on an 0-1 pitch into left field for the grand slam.

Ambrose got in on the home run party three batters later hitting a two-run home run that just skirted over the left field wall.

The 12 runs by CSU were scored in only two innings of play, while Peyton Sorrells settled in strong inside the circle.

Sorrells picked up the win giving up six hits while striking out five.

Dawson picked up her second home run of the season in her lone official at bat of the day. Parker grabbed three RBI's while Ambrose went 2-for-2 with three runs and two RBI's.
