SMITHS STATION, Ala. - The Columbus State University cross country teams had impressive showings Saturday morning sweeping both the team and individual titles at the 16th annual Cougar Classic. The meet was held at the Smiths Station Sports Complex in Smiths Station, Ala.
On the men's side, the first eight finishers were Cougars as senior Charles Asouzu grabbed the individual medalist honors finishing the 8k course in 27:15. Noah Churchwell (second, 27:22), Christopher Oswald (third, 27:35)Â and Matthew Moulton (fourth, 27:41), and Wright Calhoun (fifth, 28:07) all finished in the top-five.
As a team, CSU defeated Tuskegee by 35 points and ran the course in an average time of 27:26.
Picking up where she left off from 2018,
Alli Hay was the first female to cross the line to take home the title. Hay, who also won last season's Cougar Classic, completed the 5k in 18:54, over 25 seconds better than the next finisher.
The next six finishers were also CSU runners.
Tanzanie Brown (19:20),
Brianna Sattinger (20:14),
Cynthia Lopez-Jordan (20:32), and
Macey Voorhies (20:46) finished second through fifth, respectively.Â
On average, CSU posted a 19:57 pace as a team.
Columbus State will have a week off before hitting the course once again on Saturday, Sept. 21 participating in the Bulldog Stampede.Â
