COLUMBUS - The third-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team continued its winning ways on Friday by sweeping Auburn Montgomery 7-0. The nonconference match took place at the John W. Walden Tennis Complex in Columbus.
The Lady Cougars (4-1) had to work to earn the doubles point to jump out to the early lead.
Luise Sachs and
Amanda Citre were perfect at third doubles taking the match 6-0 while
Candice Paya and
Beatriz Lopez grabbed a ranked victory at the second position. The Lady Cougar duo took down No. 20 Julia Enderink and Alba De la Torre 6-2 to secure the first point of the day. The freshman pair of
Neila Trklja and
Kristina Baran lost a tight 7-6 decision to Sofia Navarro and Maria Casas at the top spot.
Columbus State didn't have any issues in singles play winning all six matches in straight sets. Continuing her great work, No. 21 Paya blanked Navarro 6-0, 6-0 at second singles. Tenth-ranked Sachs improved to 3-1 on the year after a 6-4, 6-1 win at the first position. Playing in the third position, No. 17 Lopez was a 6-0, 6-3 winner.
Freshmen Trklja (6-3, 6-3, 4th singles), Baran (6-0, 6-2, 5th singles), and Bigotti (6-2, 6-4, 6th singles) all picked up wins on Friday.
Columbus State will play its first ranked opponent of the year on Sunday, Feb. 23 hosting No. 24 West Alabama. The match will begin at 2 p.m. at the Walden Tennis Center.
