COLUMBUS - The third-ranked Columbus State University women's tennis team grabbed its second win of the weekend with a 7-0 decision over Montevallo on Saturday. The nonconference match took place at the John W. Walden Tennis Center in Columbus.
The Lady Cougars (8-3) won all nine matches played.Â
In doubles action, CSU wasn't pushed taking all three handily. At the top spot,
Kristina Baran and
Neila Trklja swept their opponents 6-0 while
Candice Paya and
Beatriz Lopez were 6-2 winners at the second position.
Amanda Citre and
Luise Sachs capped off the CSU sweep with a 6-3 victory at third doubles.
The most entertaining match was at first singles where No. 10 Sachs was battling Mireia Turro in a three-set thriller. Sachs eventually got the upper-hand after rallying for a 4-6, 7-6, 10-5 win. Columbus State didn't drop more than four games at the second, third, fourth and, sixth spots. No. 21 Paya (6-2, 6-1, second), No. 17 Lopez (6-0, 6-1, third), Trklja (6-4, 6-0, fourth), and
Agostina Bigotti (6-3, 6-1, sixth) all continued their winning ways during the afternoon.
Baran was also a victor in straight sets over Whitney Hamilton 6-4, 6-3 at fifth singles.
Columbus State will begin a span of six straight matches against top-20 teams on Friday, March 11 against No. 11 Wingate. The match will begin at 2 p.m. at the Walden Tennis Center at Cooper Creek Park in Columbus.
