AUGUSTA, Ga. - The Columbus State University track and field programs placed 12 student-athletes on the Peach Belt Conference's Teams of Academic Distinction for their work in the classroom.
Eight males and four females were recognized for carrying a GPA over a 3.3 through the fall semester. To be selected to the team, a student-athlete must have completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution and reached sophomore eligibility.
For the men's team, seniors Charles Asouzu (3.40 GPA, Biology), Joshua Barbee (3.339, Kinesiology), and Christopher Oswald (3.60, General Business) led the way. Also, graduate student Nathan Chapman (3.31, Masters of Teaching) represented the Cougars. Others on the team included Kaden Ellis (3.72, Biology), Brian Pickens (3.53, Communications), John Scarborough (3.55, Biology), and Roosevelt Trammell (3.51, Management).
Senior Eva Salazar-Torres (3.34, Heath Science) highlighted the women's selections. The remaining three selections were all sophomores: Melita-Marie Roachford (3.53, Computer Science - Games Programming), Brianna Sattinger (3.90, Biology), and Macey Voorhies (3.45, Nursing).
Formerly known as the All-Academic team, the Peach Belt Conference Teams of Academic Distinction are part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee the program.
